Somatic Approaches to Stress and Trauma Recovery

Somatic approaches recognize that trauma is stored in the body, not just the mind. Breathwork Detox integrates somatic awareness — the felt sense of the body — with diaphragmatic breath to support safe nervous system regulation.

Diaphragmatic-breathwork

Somatic breathwork focuses on how physiological states change with breath and how this physical experience impacts emotional states. By consciously adjusting breathing patterns (especially exhalation), the body can shift out of sympathetic dominance into a state of relaxed alertness that supports emotional processing without overwhelm.

This bottom-up approach:

  • Releases chronic muscle tension

  • Improves interoception (body awareness)

  • Promotes flexible nervous system responding

These skills are essential for breathwork teachers, especially when working with clients navigating stress and trauma histories.
